Helping NHS Trusts deliver more elective activity without compromising on quality
MDCG provides complete elective surgical and procedural pathways with a primary focus on day-case and short-stay activity. We work across a broad range of specialities, with clinical teams configured to match the requirements of each pathway. Services can be delivered within the client’s own estate, through an approved partner hospital, or as a hybrid model spanning multiple sites.
The Challenges We Help Address
- Elective surgical backlogs and missed RTT targets
- Insufficient theatre capacity within existing NHS estate
- Surgical workforce vacancies preventing additional in-house lists
- Day-case conversion rates below target
- Theatre utilisation gaps — particularly weekends and evenings
- Patients waiting for procedures that could be delivered in a day-case setting
- Incomplete pre-operative pathways causing list cancellations
- No clear route to treating patients outside the Trust’s own estate
Delivery Models
Insourced surgical lists
MDCG's consultant-led surgical teams optimize existing theatre facilities by delivering services during extended hours, evenings, or weekends, ensuring no disruption to the daytime program.
Outsourced surgical pathways
When NHS theatre capacity is lacking, MDCG can provide surgical services at approved independent-sector facilities, maintaining the NHS contract and full clinical and governance accountability.
Hybrid surgical model
Pre-operative assessment and consultation at the NHS site, with surgical delivery at an alternative approved setting — combining the clinical familiarity of the NHS environment with the theatre availability of an independent partner.
End-to-end pathway delivery
From waiting list validation and patient selection through to theatre delivery, histology management and follow-up — MDCG manages the complete pathway as a single, accountable programme.
Weekend and extended-day outsourced activity
Utilising available theatre time for additional surgical sessions outside of core hours to speed up elective recovery without extra costs or disrupting core services.
