In 2024, Northampton General Hospital faced significant challenges in meeting their Dermatology targets. A previous supplier had failed to provide sufficient capacity to meet the increasing referral demands, leading to growing backlogs in paediatric, adult, and minor operations services. The hospital urgently sought a comprehensive solution to address these issues and improve patient care.

We were contracted to provide a comprehensive Dermatology service for minor operations and outpatients at Northampton General Hospital. The initial contract was for six months, with an option to extend for a further six months based on performance.

MDCare provided a comprehensive team of specialists, including:

  • Dermatology Consultants
  • Plastic Surgery Consultants
  • Specialised nursing staff
  • Administrative support staff

We implemented a flexible schedule to maximise capacity:

  • Wednesdays: 1 Minor Operations list
  • Saturdays: 1 Paediatric Outpatient list, 1 Adult Outpatient list
  • Sundays: 1 Paediatric Outpatient list, 1 Adult Outpatient list, 1 Minor Operations list
  • Remote letter administration and dictation completed by MDCG clinical lead

 

For us quality of staff is always a priority. To guarantee quality assurance:

  • All consultants are required to have a minimum of 2 years post-CCT experience in substantive NHS posts.
  • Consultants must be on the relevant specialist register.
  • Plastic surgeons are required to provide surgical logbooks detailing all procedures.
  • We need references from clinical leads confirming employment and capabilities for all consultants.
