Through detailed weekly utilisation reporting, we were able to identify trends with a partner Health Board in Wales, that significant numbers of patients were having incomplete procedures due to poor bowel prep. The local teams identified internally a number of factors, which we supported them in addressing. To minimise impact on the patients, a system was put in place where our teams would issue prescriptions for enhanced bowel prep, and discharge patients with a time and date for a repeat procedure, along with clear instructions to help them prepare. In doing so, waiting times for a repeat procedure reduced significantly (from months to weeks), and the recurrence of repeated failed procedures decreased significantly, improving patient experience and reducing waiting lists for repeat procedures.
